Whats interesting about this last storm is that snow showers got down to about 5,000 feet in the Alabama Hills, but not to the Valley floor.
The reason is, it was all dependent on the amount of cold air and moisture behind the system Saturday night. Cold air for sure was there, but moisture was not. So, the life of a forecaster remains like the weather here in the Owens Valley, tenuous at best.
The good news is the the Sierra Crest all the up through Mammoth and beyond got "hammered." Mammoth Mountain is now sporting some 428 inches of snow for the season.
With the 01-MAR forecast tomorrow, I will have the March 2011 weather outlook.
