Quoting Dennis' report:

"As of this morning, Mammoth Mountain reported 589 inches of snow for the season. The magic 600, and the highest snowfall in recorded history, is just around the corner."

I got a call from a friend who works on communications systems. Poor guy had to take a helo ride into Buck Rock, a high point in Sequoia N.P. They had to reset a curcuit breaker on some "emergency equipment" smirk

He said they sank chest-deep in the new snow! So they're off to REI to buy snow shoes. smile

Is that going to do much good? If the snow is that deep and soft won't the snow shoes sink in just about as deep?

Quite likely. But they would be better than nothing!

Here's one of his pictures:

Epic year. Does this mean the drought is over?

Interestingly, while the Mammoth snow guage is close to the record, the CDEC water content graph shows that, while we are comfortably above the average, we are well below the record from the spring of 1983.

Here are the current California Dept. of Water Resources graphs. The third one covers the Whitney area.

It's going to be another late season for Mosquitoes. Probably be pests until mid to late August depending on your location.
