May/June AARP "The Magazine" is running a feature called "Crazy for Adventure".
It presents six categories of "adventure", with three examples under each category, one "Insane", one "Sane", and one "Tame". Category one is climbing, with a 54-year old on about a 5.2 pitch, training for Acongacua (22,841) as the "Insane" entry. The "Sane" suggestion is:
"Try a "walk-up' mountain like the south slope of Mount Whitney, in California".
after that ("Tame") comes a walk to the highest point in Florida.
Just for perspective on AARP's scale, bungee jumping the Bridge to Nowhere over the San Gabriel, "Sane", between base jumping at 69 and skipping rope.
