I have done the main trail before and this year (sept 16th) we are heading up the Mountaineers route. With the latest (horrible weather news) I have heard a lot about the main trail. Any reports on the mountaineers trail? Conditions? Did snow fall? Any info is gold to us. I am leading the hike and don't want to take any chances as there are a couple first timers (whitney) going with us. Thanks

There really isn't any trail to be damaged on the MR. No snow fell during the storm; only hail and rain.

So mid-September should be a very nice time to go, as long as you have dry weather.

Your only concern could be loose rock falling due to thawing and refreezing.

Be sure to bring and wear a helmet for all participants.

Journey well...

Up there yesterday, no crampons or ice axe needed. Bring good boots and have a good time.

Saw four guys who did the creek crossings. My friend and I opted for the Elephant's Ear. I didn't like the prospects of getting wet in the morning.
