Here is a really dumbed-down story about bears in Yosemite. So bad it's good. However, the inestimable Kari Cobb does show up. Short commercial at the start.

Hhhmmmm...Grrrrr... Yes, bears are really testy this time of year, especially if they have lost their campground guide books and can't locate their old, favorite sites.

Yes, ranger lady, throw "little pine cones" at them; we wouldn't want to hurt their feelings by throwing rocks and yelling at them. Poor sensitive, little bearies.

I think the rangers stopped recommending throwing rocks after a boy scout group stoned one to death.

Something curious about that video. The meadows with the bears grazing looks quite lush ....like those around Dorst campground down in Sequioa N.P.

Anyone familiar enough with Yosemite recognize that meadow?

I found a cave not too far from the cabins on the south side in Yosemite Valley. As I entered the cave, I was on the lookout for bears, but, thankfully, there weren't any. However, as I turned around inside the entrance, here was a bear making his way straight to the cave. I was trapped. I immediately raised my arms high over my head (I can't remember if I yelled), getting the bear's attention. He stood up and faced me, then tore out to his right as I tore out in the opposite direction back to the cabins! Quite an adenaline rush!
