Rod's anticipation before heading to Fish Camp and the Tenaya Lodge prompted me to check the weather forecast. Here's what Weather Underground reports for

Quote:
Sierra Nevada from Yosemite to Kings Canyon -- Tuesday Night
Rain and snow. Windy. Snow accumulation up to 38 inches. Snow level above 8000 feet. Lows 42 to 48 at 5000 feet...30 to 38 at 8000 feet. South winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts to around 90 mph.

Wow! Makes me wonder about that crazy "backpackerchick" on wpsmb who wrote she was starting the JMT southbound last week.

...And Bee, I'll bet Tioga Pass will not be open in time for us to drive over on Thursday. But it may open by Sunday for the return trip.

Steve:
I am concerned about the Whitney group hike to Thor next Saturday.
Smiley Face and the X-C route that Laura is leading are both north-facing, so any significant snow will most likely stay there for a while.
We need the rain and snow, but maybe hold off for 1 more week??

I went up over Bishop Pass this weekend and their are many pockets of fresh power and the lakes are icing up!

Dmatt's forcast is about the same as W/U with possible snow through Wed. above 9000'

Phil, there is a small number of hikers going up on Friday, too. So the larger group can be forewarned Friday night and Saturday morning.

I love Dougs response to backpackerchick basicaly saying "do you really know what you are getting yourself into?" Are you at all aware you might not come out alive if you are not really experienced in the Sierras at this time of the year and are self contained cuz no one is going to be able to get to you to help you and you can't exit except on the west side? All said so subtlely.

Hey, I just popped in; what thread or title is this response under -- I would love to read it!

Thanks for the heads up, Rod.

The body betrays and the weather conspires, hopefully, not on the same day.

Major storm damage at my house:

The power was out last night for about two hours. After the power was restored, I could not use the internet. After much messing around, I came to discover that my wireless router forgot all its settings, so no computers could connect.

It is still screwed up, and I need to dig into the setup manual to figure out what is still wrong. Unfortunately, I wrote down some of the settings when I installed it, but there is one key setting -- where and how to set the password -- that I do not have. mad

I see there was a post on the WPSMB regarding the hostel, so I assume everything is okay.
