Mt Whitney Zone Forums Gear Heads Got Tubbs?

I put a pair of Viper Crampons, the latest and greatest from Tubbs, on an old pair of Tubbs Altitude 25. What an improvement!!!

Well worth the $60 I paid through REI. You can get'm direct through K2 in Seattle for $20 + this and that. The crampons were on my snowshoes before K2 responded to my e-mail.

While you are at get the Active Fit bindings, too. I think the crampon/binding package is $85.

I've used the Viper crampons on my Tubbs Katahdin's for many years now, and can vouch for the "grippiness". In fact, a couple of my friends back in New England put the old aluminum crampons back on because the Vipers caused them to do face plants on the way down.

The stainless steel is pretty rugged. I've probably put a couple of thousand miles of them (I used to do ALOT of winter hiking back in the NE) and points are still fairly sharp.

Yeah, I did the face plant thingy twice Saturday...once because of the crampon. The other plus is the the anti-bot plate works much better than the original.

Could you post a link to these Vipers and bindings please. I did a little checking and came up empty. K2 seems to be via email or drop in only, no online catalog.
