Just saw this... Cindy Abbott, member on this board, had to end her Iditarod dogsled run a week ago due to a fall on slick ice the first real day of the race. She continued on for days, and some 600 miles with a cracked pelvis causing ever-increasing pain.

What an incredible adventure!

Here's the article:

For rookie musher, Iditarod proves painful but good experience

I had the pleasure of meeting Cindy and her husband a couple weeks ago and even the opportunity to do a little work for her dog team. There is simply NOTHING like the start of the Iditarod when over a 1,000 dogs are going nuts screaming in excitement that they get to run.

I'm extremely proud of her efforts and glad she and her team made it back safe. I know some of her dogs well from last year and the kennel in Fairbanks. I wish I would have known she was a member here---I could have provided updates and pictures.

Chicagocwright - remind me of what you were wearing - it was craziness at the start!

While Larry and I have been spotted climbing Baldy over the past year (mostly Larry), I have been climbing mountains in Alaska with my sled dog team. Like big mountain climbing, I found long distance sled dog racing addicting!

My goal was to take the NORD Banner (National Organization of Rare Disorders)that I held on the summit of Mt. Everest across the finish line of the 1000-mile Iditarod Sled Dog Race.

Well, I made it 630 mile in 10 days but had to scratch due my broken pelvis (which I did 20 miles out of the start line).

Here is a link to the picture I took at what I call My Finish Line (I don't know how to post pictures)
