Found Bear Canister

My husband hiked the main trail last Thursday and came across a bear canister floating down the creek. After rescuing it from the water, he asked many people he passed if they were missing it, and apparently a lot of folks had seen it (they noticed it cached along the trail... not floating). Unfortunately he didn't locate the owner. He meant to drop it at the Portal store on his way down, but completely forgot by the time he made it to the portal.

If you or someone you know is missing their bear vault, let me know and we'll get it back to it's owner. (Also I'll be up to climb Whitney this weekend, and could bring it back up if needed)

Wow, never heard of a floating bear canister before.

One time while working our way down the mountain I joked with a young, strong looking group of servicemen who were also hiking that the chivalrous thing to do would be to offer to carry my pack down for me..... one of them replied by offering to put it in the stream so I could pick it up at the portal....

I politely declined his offer and finished the trail with a dry pack.

Momma once saw a floating styrofoam ice chest in one of the Mammoth Lakes... it had apparently been chased in there by a bear... "No Bear not the Beer!" was said to have been the reaction of the fishermen...
