Carole Tracie Frank and I hit the trail at 5:15 Saturday morning to 6th lake to go up the short cut to Langley. We watered up at 6th while I went ahead above to see how the stream was flowing its a trickle but I filled my bladder..

The chute is a lot of fun we all started on the right chute then the other 3 switched over to the left side, I stayed on the right chute all the way up, 55 min to the top for me..

We went to the left side of Langley and went up the ladies being stronger then us summited first Frank and I summited at 12:40..

So when we got to the shortcut chute to go down we changed, the 3 went down where I came up and I went down the other side then cut over 1/2 way down..

Thunder and rain around 4pm while we were walking back..

A great day with great friends..

Mark, thanks for the report.

Would you say this route was better than the New or (old) Army Pass routes? It sounds like it is a little more direct, so maybe shorter?

One of the pictures in the chute makes it look pretty steep and treacherous. Was that just the worst spot, or was there a lot of that?

And how much of the chute is really steep (what elevation gain)?

Hi Steve.. shorter yes how much don't know anywhere from 15min. to a hr I guess, something different to hike up..

On steepness the right side is little more steeper than the left side I've been told, I enjoy the right side the other 3 went up the left side..

you do have to use hand holds but in a way it reminds me of the MR chute but just using your hands more..

hoping to go up there 1 more time before they close the road..

Hey mark, assume your shortcut is up Old Army Pass? Do you have a map or route description on this? Pic #4 doesn't look very fun!

Nyker, his route was to head north to Lake #6, north of #5, and then go up the chute to the west. Here's a Gmap4 map link. The route is in the small crosshairs at the map's center.

From the map and satellite pictures, it looks like someone could head north and a little eastward from that same lake, and find another route.
