I summited last Wednesday 6/25 under perfect weather conditions. I left Whitney Portal at 3am, reached Trail Camp around 9am and was on the summit at 3:30p. Longer than I thought it would take. Stayed on top for about 30min knowing I wanted to get off the switchbacks by sunset. The only snow was a very small section near the cables and just below the summit. The trail was dry and in great shape. I reached the Portal at 1:30am. Long day but what an awesome hike and experience!!! You can find my trip photos at this link: http://www.abmedia.com/astro/articles/whitney.html

Great pictures Chris, congratulations on making the summit. That does sound like a long day, but it sounds like you took your time and really enjoyed yourself.

One day I'd like to hike the entire John Muir Trail and not leave a single footprint. -Randy Morgenson

Nice pics. I wish I had taken ones that looked that good. Maybe next year. Lol

Nah, I doubt I'll learn to take good pics by then. :-)

Great pictures! Thanks for sharing the journey. Where did you get the sign for the summit picture?

I used a Canon Powershot A2500. Worked great for my purposes.
I got it on sale at B&H Photo.

I created it in Photoshop and had it printed at Staples. Cost around $25.

Very long! Hiking the last 2 miles from Lone Pine Lake to the trailhead at 1am seemed to take an eternity! I paced myself throughout the day and just kept saying to myself it's not a race. Slow and steady.
