I'm interested in hiking the Grand Canyon of the Tuolumne at Yosemite, as a point-to-point hike. Is anyone here familiar with the route? It goes from Tuolumne Meadows to White Wolf, and while there's shuttle bus service at TM it doesn't look like there's any public transportation at White Wolf. Any suggestions on how to make this point-to-point hike with only a single car?

I think wagga (member here) led a Sierra Club trip on that route once. Maybe he can give you some info.

As for transportation: Tioga road sees lots of traffic, so I would think hitch hiking might be a viable solution. Also, I think the YARTS transit system would drop you at White Wolf. I am not sure, but it seems like they would pick you up there, too.

Thanks. I found a YARTS schedule, and there's a bus that stops at White Wolf, but only once per day, and only on weekends after September 1. That constrains my possible schedule quite a bit, but it could still work. Otherwise, as you say there's always hitch hiking.

YARTS schedule (White Wolf Lodge is stop 223): http://www.yarts.com/schedule/2014/HWY%20120%20-%20Mono_.jpg

I've done that a couple of times, once on YARTs and once hitching.

In addition to YARTs, there is the Tuolumne Meadows Tours and Hikers Bus (http://www.yosemitepark.com/tuolumne-meadows-tour.aspx). They go from the TM store to WW daily picking up at the store at 2:15 p.m. I think they charge $7 and it runs daily until 9/14. That gives you a morning option and an afternoon one. YARTs is only $3 and the busses are quite comfortable.

Hitching it took ~1 min. to get a ride in late May before the busses were running last year.

Grand Canyon of the Tuolumne trip is GO! We'll be hiking Friday 9/19 through Monday 9/22. Unfortunately the Tours and Hikers bus shuts down on 9/14, and the YARTS bus only runs on weekends in September. So it looks like we'll be hitching from Tuolumne Meadows back to White Wolf on the 22nd. Hopefully some other friendly hikers will give us a lift. :-)
