This is WAY off-topic.

Lowe's offers military discounts of 10% off the purchase price for EVERYTHING IN THE STORE EVERYDAY for all Active Duty, Reserves, and Retired and their dependents! Yes, EVERYTHING EVERYDAY!

All you need is present your Department of Defense (DoD) ID card at the time of checkout.

Thank you, Lowe's.

Now if I could just claim to be a dependent of my S-O-L!

I've spent over $500 at Lowe's in the past several months.

Home Depot does the same thing. It might be just my local Lowes, but they have to call over a manager to get the transaction complete. The two Home Depot's I go to do not do this.

There are lots of great business' out there that offer a military discount. I make sure I ask if I'm someplace new.

One of my favorites (besides Denny's) is Bass Pro. Though they only offer it one week a month. I just make sure I spend enough so the savings covers my gas. smile

I have a list on my work computer of place's that offer a discount - LMK if you want it....................DUG

I'd be happy to get your list. Please e mail:

ernie_cunliffe@hotmail.com

Wish I had known this 2 weeks ago when I spent over $1000 at Lowes. The 24 yrs in service might amount to something after all.

My last encounter with HD was that they only did it during the National Holidays. They could have changed their practices since 2008.

Yes, Lowe's has to have a manager but it is worth the 10% "'wait' in gold." I found out about Lowe's 10 when I bought a fridge a month ago. I asked for a military discount. Yep. Everything in the store? Yep. Everyday? Yep. Yes, had I known years ago, too. Now my wife makes me (lovingly, of course) escort her to Lowe's to buy flowers and home improvement stuff...geesh! cry I wanna buy TOOLS! grin

Now, that I know, it is my best place to shop next to REI. If REI has Military 10%...hmmm...the thought never came to ask...so guess what?! If they do, then LOOK OUT! Lead, follow, or get the heck out of my way! Yes, wifey-pooh has to come, too.

Now, you telling me Bass Pro? Nearest BP is Manteca or Bakersfield (don't know if B-field is open yet...have to check website later).

Hey, DUG, you have the list then post it here! Thank you, DUG!

Have fun!

Here is the list on my home computer - I'll check the newest one at work and see if it's different. The best thing to do is ASK. No one has ever given me a hard time for asking. Some places will take a dependent ID, some won't. A few times a place on the list doesn't train their employees very well so they don't even know they offer a discount. Home Depot has a cap on theirs - 500ish I think. If you're buying a lot of stuff, break it up into several purchases. If it's one big item, check and see if they have it at Lowes or again ASK if they will honor it.

Cell Phone Service Discount
All Federal Employees are able to get a 15% discount on their personal cell phones by calling their carrier and mentioning the "Federal Telecommunications Act of 1996 - Discount to Federal Employees Past and Present."

  • Cingular - 800-319-6393 (17% or 18% off bill and 25% off accessories)
  • Sprint - 877-812-1223
  • T-Mobile - 866-646-4688
  • Nextel - 800-639-6111
  • Verizon - 800-865-1825 (17%)

You can tell this is my old list from the cell phone companies. Cingular is ATT T now. Still, the discount works. These may not be the right phone numbers.

Thank you for the list, DUG!

I agree with DUG, keep your purchases small. Don't go buying $1,000 worth of items. That way you don't attract too much attention at the checkout counter.

The fast food places are out for me, due to my New Year's resolution...so far, so good...too bad the High Sierra Cafe or Sequoia Brewing Company ain't on the list...I consider those eating/drinking establishments and not fast food joints. Oh, if only Claim Jumper Restaurants had discounts...

Now had I known Arby's had discounts...oh lordy be! That was my fries until they stopped selling regular fries and resorted to those "too salty" curlies.

Carl's Jr.? Give me two $6.00 burgers and 3 large order of them fries! Oh, and a shake and bottomless iced tea, to boot! Piggy me yes!

My wife lives Zappos.com...I ain't asking them online! wink

Again, thanks a bunch, DUG!

Have fun.
