Hi all,
Apologies if this issue is already addressed in an earlier post , but I could not find anything on the subject.
Do hikers often leave gear not required for the summit ( read tent, cooking equipment etc) at trail camp whilst hiking to the summit, and then collect it on the way down?.
Just looking at all options to lighten the load in the pack for the last 3000 odd feet!

Heading up on 10/4, hope the weather holds out.

Yes, people leave their gear at their camp site all the time.

Once in a while wind will kick up and blow a tent away, so either pack it up or put several rocks inside. Don't zip it closed, because curious animals have been known to chew a hole to get inside.

Also, marmots and mice will invade any food you leave unprotected or inside your tent. So that needs to be packed to the summit, or stored in a bear-resistant container.

I use paracord to hang my food from the rocks at Trail Camp. Marmots don't climb, particularly when everyone else leaves their food on the ground.
