Looking to climb the main trail on Mt Whitney on May 5th 2016. I am planning a 2am start at Whitney Portal and just a day hike. I am also hoping to do 1 or 2 acclimatisation hikes leading up to it but haven't yet decided which ones. Look forward to hearing from any one interested.
Newclimber, May 5 is a Thursday. You may not see many people on the trail that day. From the unused permits numbers, between 1 and 5 people pull day hike permits mid-week in May. On Saturdays, the average is more like 25.
Thanks Steve and good point, on a closer look it is actually going to work out best for me on the Friday 6th. Ill see how I go with this and if I cannot find anyone then I will consider changing to Saturday the 7th.
