Hello, I am looking to join a group leaving 5/27 for the overnight Main Trail - preferably a slower paced group. I am female and all my peeps backed out on me. I am fit and have high altitude experience 16.5K and 19.5k, so I'm not a complete loss cause. But for obvious safety reasons with expected weather conditions I prefer not to do this alone.

Two other requests please:

1) I have 1 reserved spot in my group that person backed out ( I don't think you can change names but maybe you can?) but if someone wants a spot maybe we can discuss possibly how to do this.

2) How do most of you filter water on the trail? Tabs vs a pump filter?

Thanks for your help.

I used a filter pump for a while, but it was rather tiring and time consuming to pump several liters. I switched to iodine tabs. Wait 30 minutes, add the neutralizer to kill the iodine taste, and you are good.

I've used the Steripen for years, everywhere. Easy, no moving pump parts, simple, no iodine taste.

Camel Back makes a similar product. Not sure if one is any "better" than the other, except that I do know Camel Back has an excellent replacement policy The button on mine became "flaky" after a couple of years, and Camel Back replaced the unit - no charge.
