Mt Whitney Zone Forums General Discussion Affordable Transportation Lone Pine to Main Trail and back

Hello, I would like to know people's thoughts on transportation given limited parking/construction when needing to transport from Lone pine to Mail Trail and back.

I know the shuttles are available, but they are pricey and it looks like the earliest drop off time is 9am (?) and I would like to start a bit sooner than that.

Is Uber up and running in that area?

Also, once you are finished w/ the climb what is the best way to arrange for transportation back to Lone Pine given that you may not know the exact time you will be complete with the hike.

Maybe I should start a car pool thread for my start date 5/27 ?

I am male but I imagine the females on this site might say there is far less risk here than anywhere urban you are coming from. On the way up: Why not check in at the hostel and share a ride?
On the way down, hanging around the Portal store lets you meet plenty of nice people and safe rides.

This is a good place for your car pool thread. The unfortunate part is that 75-95% of Whitney hikers don't visit this or any other message board.

Mount Whitney Golf Course now has designated long and short term parking for hikers... we felt that it would be beneficial for everyone because of the road construction coming up this summer... Our fee is $10 a day... $25 a week... $75 month... and we will operate a shuttle.

saltydog: I called Bobby Daniels' number this morning. He is no longer with the golf course, and does not handle parking or shuttle info. People can call the main golf course number instead: 760-876-5795.

Unfortunately the golf course people don't have a handle on any shuttle info. Best place to check is the main Road Construction thread. I'll keep the shuttle info up-to-date in the first post there.
