Hey folks, has anyone been up Mt Langley using the New Army Pass? I am planning on hiking this weekend, staying at cottonwood lakes on Saturday night and summiting on Sunday.

Would like to get info on the conditions.

Thanks,

sTriKer, I was up in that area on June 5th. I did not go up New Army Pass, but it seems passible. I just did a conditioning day climb up Army Pass (from HM), summited Cirque Peak, and back to HM. There was snow at the last switch back on New Army Pass when I was looking down at high lake. If you are going to Langley, I would climb up Army Pass. It's closer to the summit and a great climb. You'll need Ice axe and crampons for sure up Army and Langley. Very little snow on the plateau above Army before Langley ascent.

I'll post some pics as soon as I figure out how. Hope this info helps. Have a safe and fun trip.

New Army usually has a cornice at the top this early in the year. The earliest I have been over it is 4th of July weekend. Passed under the melted out cornice on the way up...while we were on Langley, it collapsed.

If impassible for your skill level, you can access Langley from Cottonwod Pass. Leave your gear at Chicken Spring Lake (if backpacking), go out the PCT. When you see Cirque Peak, angle towards it, follow the cirque around to the top of New Army Pass. From there it is self-explanatory.
