Mt Whitney Zone Forums General Discussion MR Conditions and Gear Needed

Trip upcoming on July 12. Was wondering about the current conditions on the MR and gear needed (ropes, traction devices, etc.). I've seen a lot of updates on the main trail, but not as much on the MR, even after digging through a few pages of the main trail conditions thread(s).

Guides carry ropes for their clients, and mostly because they go in spring conditions with crampons, etc. But most independent hikers just go with no special gear. I'm pretty sure you will find dry rock to climb all the way up.
