Mt Whitney Zone Forums General Discussion Lone Pine Lake

My grandson is in town and we have already done the zoo, Wild Animal Park, Universal Studios and Disneyland three times. I want to take him up to Lone Pine Lake for some fishing on Friday. We plan to arrive at the portal around 8 or 8:30 for a pancake before heading up and then down in time for a burger.

How long and how often are the road closures happening? How is the day use parking? Any impacts from the fire at the portal - more traffic/less parking?

Short notice trip and I haven't read through all the posts. If anyone else is going to be up in the area, LMK. Would like to say hi. Haven't been around in a few years.............................................DUG

On Tuesday afternoon (8/9), they were running the pilot car from the Portal about half way down W.P. Road. That pilot car run would take about 15 minutes, so you would wait up to 30 minutes maximum between runs. They were working on paving the last section near the top.
