Mt Whitney Zone Forums General Discussion Walk-in permit for Sunday 10/9

What are the odds of getting a 2 person permit for this date and what time should I show up at the ranger station? (I know they start giving them out at 2:00 pm). I'd have to drive about 8 hours to get there and it would be disappointing to make the trip for nothing, since that would be the only day available to hike.

Keep checking the recreation.gov website, permits pop up and then disappear all the time.

Bookmark it (better, make it your "home page"), and keep checking.

Otherwise, no-shows come available at 2 PM the day before (on Oct 8) If you are there at that time, you are sure to get a permit. For that matter, any time after 2 PM should be ok, since in October the quota is almost never used up.

Thanks Steve. I know about the website, and I'll keep checking. But it sounds like, if I can't get one by the time I head there (on the 8th, and be there at or before 2:00 pm), then I should be able to get a permit anyway.
