I'm just south of Cape Tribulation - so no worries for me. However, I have a sister in Mackay. She has a dog named Toto, even though she has never watched "The Wizard of Oz'. So my advice to her is to "tie your Toto dog down sport". And rellies in Townsville, also. This girl could cross the coast a ways north or south of the forecast, and could also ramp up to a Cat 5. So I'm keeping a very close eye on the situation. I think I prefer California earthquakes over cyclonic events...

I am, as noted, hundred of ks north of the cyclone - not to worry about me - except for swimming yesterday at Irikanji National Park & getting a fair sun-burn.

Finally heard from my sister - she was admitted to hospital with a pain issue - Hospital would be a safe place in a cyclone. Toto (the Dog), however, endured the event in a house with 5 cats...

Tens of thousands without power or Internet or cell comms. Not much is known about damage due to lack of communication. Even the emergency radio and TV fell over. One known injury, no deaths reported so far.

On the plus side:

A good solid cyclone cools the Reef - preventing & repairing the current coral bleaching.

Parts of inland central Queensland that have been in drought for years will get a good soaking, as this is a large, slow-moving weather event.

Grateful for safety in the wild weather. I see my stay in hospital as a blessing. Though the cover blew off my motor home hatch, saturating my bed and rendering it unliveable, I have some answers re pain courtesy of the cyclone. They couldn't fob me off and send me home. Nowhere to go! I'm thankful for the love of family and friends. and I'm grateful too for insurance covering not only repairs but also alternative accommodation and transportation in the interim! And Toto survived the ordeal too 😀
