Mt Whitney Zone Forums General Discussion Mt. Muir Conditions

Got a permit for Whitney and planning on bagging the summit on the 22nd. Have never done Mt Muir and would love to see if anyone out there has given it a look this winter.

I'm guessing that the snow up there makes it too dangerous to attempt. If that's not the case, I want to give it a shot!

I'm guessing it would be doable. It's such a slight deviation from the trail that it wouldn't take long to find out anyway.

I summited Whitney on 7/14 and there is no snow on Mt. Muir. The only snow from Trail Crest to the Whitney summit is a couple patches in the last quarter to half a mile from the summit.

I'll give it a go if I'm feeling up to it and post back after my trip.

Took a shot at it yesterday. Much more of a technical climb than I was expecting so I ended up turning around just shy of the top. Decided that a fall 10 miles from the trailhead would make for a bad day. Maybe next time after I learn how to actually climb.
