Saw "High Sierra" (1941) at a Warner Brothers double feature in Palo Alto tonight. Primarily set (and shot on location) at Whitney Portal. Several points of particular interest. Whitney described as "the highest point in the United States: 14,501 feet." Fishermen in canoes on the Portal pond. Best of all, the climactic cop car and motorcycle chase up unpaved Whitney Portal Road ends at - what else - a "Road Closed" barrier. I don't think I was the only one in the theater who burst out laughing at that one.
