Physics of earthquakes are such that the mountains don't move much at all, since they are solid rock. Waves travel as "waves" through sedimentary areas, so you feel it there much more easily.

So if nobody in the mountains felt it, don't be surprised.

I don't know, even if the mountains don't move much, I'm sure a strong enough earthquake nearby could trigger rocks slides or avalanches in the mountains.

I didn't hear about the earthquakes until one of my family members in the Midwest mentioned it when I was up on Shasta. If it had been closer to Shasta, I'd have been more worried about effects on the tons of snow all around me.

Agree with that wave form on sedimentary rock.
After we climbed Orizaba in 1997 the earthquake in Mexico City (ancient lake bed ) felt like a roller coaster, not shaking

The other big earthquake yesterday was in LA-

the monster NBA trade that the Clippers got.

I was just about to leave Horseshoe Meadow when the 7.1 hit. It really shook my car and the one next to me for about 15 seconds. I’m glad the damage isn’t any worse than it is.

We were at Whitney Portal when the Friday, 7+ quake, hit. Didn't feel a thing, however, we'd gone CTC that day on Whitney, so our legs may have been pounded to numbness. . . . . . There were some campers who said they had felt it.

On Thursday in a Lone Pine parking lot, the truck was rocking from an aftershock from the July 4 quake, although we didn't feel the initial quake while driving.

And in similar news, we had a 4+ quake in the Seattle area last night, that one woke us up!
