I've got a permit for 5/25 and am sure hoping it'll open before then.

Well it is in CA so I would not count on a May reopening. However, it is a federally run facility so perhaps when the federal government lifts their restrictions on May 1st Inyo will reopen.

I've got a mid July permit so my fingers are crossed.

Be safe!!

My guess is that the whole Whitney Zone will be locked down until at least the 4th of July. As it should be.

Not sure if it is wishful thinking or what, but I hope activities like hiking, where there is limited close contact, will be some of the first activities opened up.

The impact of months of having no work and no income will become so severe that the impact of that will equal the impact of having more people exposed to the virus.

People are still going to and working at grocery stores, and with the social distancing, mask-wearing and careful behavior, it appears that we have had lots of success limiting the virus spread. It seems to me that following the same practices, more activities could be opened.

I agree Steve. The effects on the economy will be felt far worse than the virus and will need to be opened up as much as possible. Reasonable social distancing and appropriate mask wearing is 90% percent of it and everything can open up in a few months that don't include large gatherings. Fortunately hiking isn't one of them.

Shutting down hiking permits for the whole year would be like trying to kill a mouse with a bomb. The mouse is dead but you blew up the whole store in the process. I can understand cancelling large events until 2021 but not this. I think they will reopen by June.
