Is The horseshoe Meadows Road open ?

There is a locked gate a mile from the trailhead. People are parking there and hiking in.

What would be the logic (or excuse) to keep this gate closed at this time?

I was up there this weekend. The gate is still closed just before the campground. What I do find odd is the campground is being maintained. Trash is being emptied. Bathrooms are open and fully stocked. Everything is clean....they can open the gate at any moment and the campground will be ready to go. I did read somewhere that local politics is causing the delay in opening HSM.

I noticed that the website (https://www.fs.usda.gov/recmain/inyo/recreation) now lists Horseshoe Meadow Rd. as closed at "the forest boundary." Am I correct in assuming that this must be a block further down from where it was previously?

It's closed at the same spot it was prior to the earthquake. They had closed the whole thing immediately after the earthquake. I think they are just defining it better/differently post earthquake.
