Very cool! Wish I'd been in the area to witness it.

Illyav, how lucky and rare that you would be sitting on top of a mountain when an earthquake hit near by! Thanks so much for sharing the video of the effects.

Wow cool video but I didn't seen any video shot during the actual quake. It appears your video only includes post video footage. I would suspect you were hanging on for dear life to even think about shooting video. If you were able to shoot some during the quake please post some footage. Thanks!

That's epic! Super cool that you had that experience and were able to descend safely.

Hey thanks guys and you're welcome Steve C.

@hiiker I didn't get footage while the quake was happening, I had just finished taking video and pictures on the summit block by the peak register and I think I had a tuna packet or a water bottle in my hand when the shaking started. If I would have taken 360 degree footage longer, maybe about 5 minutes longer or so, I would have caught the quake on camera! I threw my hands out for balance when it happened cause it shook pretty significantly and I was standing on the aforementioned rock. I was surprised by it and just stood there registering what happened (I knew it was a big quake cause we were at Diaz Lake two days prior and felt the 4.8 foreshock and I had recently read about the Walker Lane fault not far from Lone Pine). I started hearing rocks falling and they got louder and then the dust became visible, that's when I pulled out my camera again and started taking video of the rockfalls. That would have been so cool to catch the quake on camera but I just missed it! But I'm glad I was able to document the aftermath beginning seconds after it from that high vantage point.

Thanks for providing further details about your experience during the EQ. Just think, if you had gotten footage during the quake you might now be rich and famous or at least your name and video would have been on every news site. smile

This is a remarkable video. Thank you for sharing!

Could you estimate the amount of time between stopping the video pre-earthquake and starting after the earthquake?

Thanks Snacking Bear, I was back up in that area last weekend to bag Lone Pine Peak... I had just stopped recording a couple minutes before the quake, maybe four to six minutes, I was so close to catching it on camera! Right after it happened rocks started falling so I started recording again, and I started recording about 10 seconds or so after the shaking stopped. Fun times lol.
