Such a sad story. Not clear exactly where she was along the trail... but to survive a fall and 2 nights of freezing temperatures and to be alive when rescuers got to her. Then succumbing to injuries at the hospital. So tragic.

Very sad.

They mention in that article that she kept warm by crawling under a fallen log, so that means somewhere around Mirror Lake or below. The cliffs above Mirror Lake are also pretty dangerous.

Thanks for posting the note. So truly sad.

Here's the Sierra Wave article
Missing mother, hiking on Mt. Whitney, found by Inyo SAR yesterday alive, has died.

Very sad indeed.

Doug T. told me the accident happened between Lone Pine Lake and the Portal, but she was taking a cross country route (not main trail). Not sure if it was on purpose or not. She may have missed the turn coming down, and ended up at the lake and then continued down to the Portal via a use trail.

They have a GoFundMe page to help her kids.

Found out after the fact this was the same day I had gone up for a solo day hike to the summit. Hiked from Lone Pine Lake to WP between 4-6pm and nothing was unusual or disturbed along main trail. Sad to know someone was somewhere out there in need of help.
