Hi guys and gals, just did the MR yesterday and thought I'd give back by posting a trip report. Conditions were I'd say on the whole ok. There was no consistent snow up to just below upper boy scout, and even in the middle of the night (ie when things were icy) crampons weren't necessary until above iceberg lake. There is no way to climb on snow up to little boy scout, and the e-ledges were dry and doable, so choose that route unless conditions change. You could definitely walk on dirt most of the way to iceberg lake if you wanted to, or you could be almost continually on snow from upper boy scout if that's your preference. The snow on the MR chute was crusty to icy, which meant that every skier or snowboarder ended up showering the climbers below with chunks of ice. From what I could tell it was 100% survival skiing down the chute, and there's no way to ski from iceberg to upper boy scout due to rocks blocking the one remaining snow chute. So basically, let it be known that ski season on the MR is essentially over barring a major storm. Additionally, the last 50 feet of the chute is all rock and dirt. Finally, both the final 400 and easy walk around were in good condition, and plenty of parties did both.

Thanks for the update! Do you know if the switchbacks are open or have a ton of snow on them?

If you mean the main trail, I did a day trip on 4/24 to Trail Crest. That last part above Trail Camp was pretty much pretty much covered in snow, about 1-2 ft of snow. Was doable without snow shoes or crampons, but an ice ax is mandatory. Crampons would have been nice, but I had good hiking shoes. Snow was fairly packed. Below Trail Camp, there is patchy snow.

What shoes were you using?
