Hi! Friends and I are planning to hike Mt Whitney on July 3rd, as a day hike. We have our day permits, so all is well there. My friends and I did Rim to Rim last year, so we are familiar with a grueling day hike. I wanted to ask this group though, is it projected that even on July 3rd that we will need boots, crampons, and ice axes? Or will the snow be melted enough in a month that the needed technical gear might be slightly less? Any helpful info is so much welcomed. (We climbed Mt. Elbert in July a few years back, and did have to trek through snow, but were able to manage that then with just our hiking shoes and poles.)
