ok, so I am going to do Whitney next week...And I'm thinking..."gee, if I stay another day, can I do another peak?"

I am planning on staying at Consultation Lake the first night. and it looks like the path up to Arc Pass from CL isn't overly difficult.

Is this something that is doable or am I being overly ambitious by planning on doing Whitney one day and then Irvine the next?

If I start early enough, could I do Whitney and then Irvine in the same day (assuming that my legs cooperate)?

Is this the right route?

I am not sure if this is the route that you were considering:

Quote Page 60 Third Edition The High Sierra by R.J. Secor:

Mt. Irvine

West Face. First ascent 1957 by Charles House.
Ascend the fourth chute south of Consultation Lake. Be forewarned: As a descent route, this chute is impossible to find from the summit of Mount Irvine.

At a second glance, I see that there is a Class 2-3 Arc Pass route to Irvine that departs from the eatern shore of Consultation Lake.

The body betrays and the weather conspires, hopefully, not on the same day.

Hi Bee,
I'm hoping that there is another route other than the west face. I have what I think is the west face marked by a red X here.

The path that I hope to go up is straight up Arc Pass and then up one of the smaller chutes. on the ridge between Irvine and Mallory.

From this site: http://www.summitpost.org/mountain/rock/151355/mount-irvine.html

"Norman Clyde first climbed Mt. Irvine in June 1925, and named this peak and neighboring Mt. Mallory that year in honor of the famous mountaineers who died while climbing Mt. Everest--George Leigh Mallory and Andrew Irvine. Mt. Irvine has outstanding views of Mt. McAdie and one of the best views of the east side of Mt. Whitney. There are several routes up Mt. Irvine: two class 1 routes (the North Slopes and Arc Pass routes (the route Clyde first climbed)); three class 2-3 routes (the East Chute, Traverse from Mallory, and West Face Routes); the class 4 East Couloir; and the East Buttress V, 5.9. It is a good peakbagging doubleheader with nearby Mt. Mallory. See R.J. Secor, The High Sierra: Peaks, Passes, and Trails, or Steve Roper, The Climber's Guide to the High Sierra, for additional information on routes."

looks like this may be more of a challenge than I thought.

found some photos and description of the arc pass descent that suggest that I should stick to my original plans.

You could always climb Thor Peak or Wotans Throne.
