It may not be literally true that we humans learn only from disasters, but we do seem to have a tendency in that direction.
Alan, I wasn't trying to infer that humans
only learn from disasters... but instead that the reaction to step back and look at the way that reactors (and other buildings) are built isn't something "special" in relation to just this earthquake...
