OK everyone here is one solution. Buy a Hav A Hart (Havahart) animal trap. They come in various sizes but I think the squirrel/chipmunk size will be what you need. I have trapped and relocated a couple of dozen squirrels over the years by using peanut butter in a jar lid placed on the trigger plate. The key is to relocate the trapped animal and release it at least 5+ miles from your home or the rascals will return, especially if you dump them in Steve C's yard and it is really close to your home.

Also, unfortunately a bird feeder does attract them. One hazzard is that a squirrel removed will leave a vacancy and another will move into your yard. Just keep at it and relocate the animal in a similar environment where there is food and water for them, ie a distant park or oak grove.

We have been lucky in that alot of foxes live nearby and they help eliminate the problem too. You might have to check with local authorities to see if trapping and releasing squirrels/chipmunks is allowed where you live. You don't need chewed wires and a visit form the Division of Wildlife too.
