It seems the State of California is none too pleased about people coming up Snow Creek to Mt. San Jacinto. Saturday, they had a real live sworn ranger on the peak waiting for people to top out so they could level a fine. After all, you are in your wilderness without a permit and the state is without the coin of the realm.
I will admit that I usually hike with a group that already has permits if they are required, so I am not up to the minute on permit regs, however, I thought that you only needed a permit for overnights in most places outside the Whitney Zone??
