Umbilical hernias are tough to repair as opposed to an inguinal hernia which repairs fairly well with a laproscopicly inserted mesh.The Umbilical Hernia is complicated by the tearing of abdominal wall and muscles.It is hard to sew or patch.The procedure doesn't have great outcomes. As Ken states make sure it is absolutely necessary before proceeding.
